About the College

Gorubathan Government College is situated in beautiful foothill surrounded by huge greenery in lower Fagu, Gorubathan. The journey of the college has begun at Judhabir Higher Secondary School of Sombaray, Gorubathan since 20th July, 2015 because of undergoing construction of college building. From January 2016, all the academic and administrative work has shifted to the new building of the college, since then college have been running in its own premise and completed three years of its journey. In the beginning, college came up with 190 students offering honours courses in seven (07) different subjects including literature, arts and science along with B.A and B.Sc-Bio general courses. Later on college has added one more honours in Zoology. Gorubathan Government College is now offering eight (08) honours courses along with B.A, B.Sc-Bio general courses. Currently the college is running with twenty (20) faculties of different streams and ten (10) non-teaching staff of the college. College will come up with new subjects and increasing faculty strength in formative years.

As the college building is still under construction, we have been running our classes in ground and first floor of the building and very soon infrastructure will reach up-to its best level. Within this short period of time, we have successfully set up three different well equipped laboratories each for Botany, Zoology and Chemistry. Besides these, the college is providing central library facility rich in various books with spacious reading room. Students shall be benefited by smart class facility which has been started by this year.

Besides academic activities, our students have put forwarded their potential and talent in the field of extra-curricular activities. It is our proud privilege that our College volleyball team has stood second place in open volleyball tournament organised by local club of Gorubathan and reached up to semi final in inter-college volleyball tournament organised by Sports Board, University of North Bengal. One student of college football team has received scholarship from Sports Board, University of North Bengal for his good performance.

College has already started N.S.S units with 100 students and will soon start N.C.C. for the benefit of the students.
College has applied for IGNOU study centre for distance education to reinforce the education development of this region.

Within this short period of time, the college has successfully organised two national seminars and a Workshop on:

  1. National Seminar on “Variation and Prospects of Ecotourism at Darjeeling and Dooars” Sponsored by the Department of Higher Education, Government of West Bengal.
  2. National Seminar on “Tribal Society and Culture” Sponsored by the Department of Higher Education, Government of West Bengal.
  3. One day workshop on “National Mission on Education through information and communication technology (NMEICT)” sponsored by National Institute of Technology (NIT) Durgapur. We have lot other projects and proposals to be implemented in near future.
